History, Mission, Vision and Core Values

A BRIEF HISTORY

Beginning as a unit primarily responsible for teaching academic writing to freshmen, the Department of Communication Studies has blossomed into one of the most vibrant departments in the Faculty of Arts. The Department was birthed in 2010 with the core mandate of training a critical mass of human resource in print and broadcast media; advertising and public relations; rhetorical communication as well as academic and technical communication. Unlike other analogous departments in other universities, the Department of Communication Studies is unique in the sense that it emphasizes a truly interdisciplinary perspective to the teaching and learning of communication and media studies from both humanistic and social sciences approaches.
